This activity was originally designed to be used as a fun way of revising some key GCSE
vocabulary during an Easter School revision session. It can last up to a few hours. Can be used as
an after school session or over the course of a week during lesson time.
We were lucky enough to have access to a library with a large basement beneath it and students
split into two groups and communicated using walkie-talkies provided by the school. This added to
the drama — we had a drama student teacher dressed up as a monster and the students in the
basement used torches to navigate from task to task, trying to complete activities within a given
time or risk one member of the team being ‘caught’ by the monster and given a short time out.
It can be easily adapted to work within a classroom, with the ‘research’ group sitting around a table with
dictionaries, ready to assist the group completing the tasks.
A lesson designed for KS3 students exploring the topic of food and drink with a focus on some traditional dishes from Spain, Peru and Mexico.

Includes screen shots of short authentic texts, one of which is used for a 'spot the cognates' activity.
* A listening task based on a video of people in Peru being interviewed about why they like their country's iconic Inca Kola. Focus on opinions and reasons for opinions.
* A reading comprehension task also on the topic of Inca Kola.
* Alphabetised vocabulary list to support less able students or those completely new to the topic of food and drink.
An authentic text on the topic of the invention of a screen which can be rolled up. Pack includes three activities.
